The Notice of 2021 Capital Credit Allocation will be arriving in our members' mailboxes soon. Please continue reading for a summary of what this means:
Capital credits represent each member's investment in the cooperative. Because cooperatives do not earn profits in the sense that other businesses do, any margins or revenues remaining after all expenses have been paid are returned to the members in the form of capital credits. Your share is determined by your electric usage.
The allocation notice that you recently received is based on the amount of electricity that you purchased from Claverack during the year 2021.
This allocation notice is for informational purposes only and can be kept for your records. There is no further action for you to take regarding this form. It is not a bill, nor is it a bill credit.
The board of directors has recently approved a capital credit retirement. The refund that you will receive as a bill credit on your July bill statement will be a modest portion of the allocated amount shown on the notice you received, not the exact amount listed on the allocation notice. If you no longer have service with Claverack, you will receive a check by mail for your portion of the retirement. Please be sure that we have your current mailing address on file.
